Judaism & the Spiritual Quest: A Study Program for Christian Leaders

Description: This innovative program is envisioned as an immersive introduction to Jewish life and thought for Christian clergy and lay leaders.

Program Goals: 
We wish to provide participants with the following experiences and resources:

·  In-depth introduction to key Jewish concepts and practices (including Hebrew terms)
·  Exploration of classical and contemporary methods of Jewish study
·  Engagement with outstanding Jewish and Christian teachers and leaders
·  Reflection on similarities and differences between Jewish and Christian religious life
·  Ideas for further Jewish learning and teaching and Jewish-Christian engagement

Program Elements:
(1)  Residential Seminar (Thursday-Friday): Participants will gather on the HC campus in Newton, MA for a three-day intensive learning experience, including a combination of the following learning modalities:

·  Seminar-style discussions (led by HC faculty)
·  Guest speakers/teachers (featuring area intellectuals, artists, and activists)
·  Outings in Greater Boston (cultural, religious, and civic)
·  Group & Personal Reflection (with HC faculty, Convergence staff, peer groups)

(2)  Shabbaton (Friday night to Saturday night): The Boston experience will include a festive Shabbat gathering including synagogue visits, sacred meals, singing and storytelling, and informal learning.

·  Shabbat: A Palace in Time
